How You Can Help. The biggest help we need is with the dissemination of this information. It will be great if you can help us with that.

  • Are you member of an online community .. a Yahoo Group, a Google Group? If so can you write an email about this website to that group.
  • We have an SMS service. Just send an SMS with MYNETA or MYNETA to 56070 . Our server will respond to that SMS with information about candidates in that constituency. If there are no elections underway in that constituency it will respond with information about MLA and MP of that area.
  • What if your Grandma doesn't use web or SMS .. you can still help her. To do that, open the constituency page on this website of where she lives Home > state > constituency, just give her a call and after telling her about all the lovely things that you have been doing all these days ;) .. read out the details about candidates in her constituency to her. Please do that now (if this is not middle of the night), tomorrow may be too late or you may just forget.
  • For every one else, we have a toll free number 1-800-110-440 Mon-Sat (10am - 6pm)

This is a race against time. We need all the help we can get.

How this whole thing is done. Our network partners in each state who are all NGOs and volunteers, collect copies of affidavits from their respective constituencies (as and when affidavits become available). They send copies of these affidavits to our data entry teams (again mostly volunteers and NGOs) who read through them and punch their data through a software tailormade for this purpose. This data is then sent to a review team that compares entered data to the original source and then it is re reviewed by another team atleast once more. This entire process of collecting candidate affidavits from all 543 constituencies of India (35 states and union territories), reading through them, digitizing their data, checking and cross checking it umpteen times as this is a very very sensitive information, and then making it available through various channels including this website, is a big project (to say it mildly). Also this has to be done very very fast as this information is useful only BEFORE the voters of our great country go to their polling booth. The fact that affidavits are often poorly scanned, written in bad handwriting and some times have pages missing, makes it an even bigger challenge. There is usually a window of less than 2 weeks from the time an affidavit becomes available at the Returning Officer's office and the date of poll in that constituency. The whole purpose of this exercise is to enable citizens of India to make an informed choice.

This entire effort becomes meaningful only when the voters of this country, the citizens of India, actually get to use this information to inform themselves about the candidates of their constituency. We just want to show them what all their candidates write in their affidavits and let them be the judge.

Disclaimer: The primary source for the data used for these reports is the sworn affidavits provided by the candidates themselves. Sheer volume of data that has to be read from the affidavits that are often poorly scanned and the lightening speed at which these reports have to be brought out makes it quite difficult to ensure accuracy of every bit of data. In case of any discrepancy in our reports vis a vis the original affidavit of any candidate, the original affidavit should be considered accurate. If you notice any discrepancies between affidavit and our report kindly let us know and we will fix them on our end as soon as possible.
